Former primary Democrat candidate crosses party lines, endorses Cardarelli for Congress

Raymond Atkins, a former Democratic primary candidate in Maryland’s 2nd Congressional District has endorsed Republican nominee Marcelo Cardarelli for Congress.
The announcement was made this morning on 680 WCBM during the Tom Marr show.

“Marcelo and I agree on the need to be fiscally responsible and he knows what it will take to create jobs. As a Democrat, I absolutely will be voting for Marcelo Cardarelli and urge all voters to get out and vote for him”, Atkins said.

“I’m honored to have Mr. Atkins’ endorsement. His support along with thousands of other Democrats who crossed party lines to support my candidacy is proof that my candidacy is gaining widespread bi-partisan support throughout the 2nd district “, Cardarelli explained.

Mr. Atkins is a former Assistant State’s Attorney who currently has his own practice in Baltimore County. He ran in the 2010 primary against current representative and incumbent Rep. C.A. “Dutch” Ruppersberger.

Cardarelli to debate Congressman Ruppersberger on WBAL tomorrow

October 19th, 2010

Dr. Marcelo Cardarelli, the Republican candidate running for Congress in Maryland’s 2nd district will debate incumbent Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger tomorrow, Wednesday, October 20th at 9:00 am on WBAL radio 1090 am.
Popular radio show host Ron Smith will be the moderator.
“I look forward to the opportunity to be able to debate the Congressman. I hope this debate will help the people of the 2nd district to make a choice as to who they will vote for”, Cardarelli said.

Two years ago, Dutch Ruppersberger and the US Congress passed the Troubled Asset Relief Program (a.k.a. Bailouts)

Of the $700 B approved, $132B were used to bailout one of the largest insurance corporations in the world, American International Group (AIG).

Within weeks of the bailout, AIG employees and distributors participated in a California retreat featuring spa treatments, banquets, and golf outings. $444,000 ON YOUR TAB.
If that was not enough, AIG sponsored the Manchester United during the 2009/2010 England Soccer league season. £56.5 million ON YOUR TAB (see picture)

Dutch Ruppersberger wants you to believe he is a fiscally conservative Congressman. Please think about your wasted taxes before you vote for him.

The best way to help businesses is not to raise taxes

In his recent blog entry, Congressman Ruppersberger acknowledges that, despite the summer of recovery, too many small businesses are struggling to provide decent benefits to employees, make payroll, or even keep their doors open.

He also tells us that his local office has been working hard to change that even though he voted against small businesses by passing Bailouts for Wall Street, a very expensive Stimulus package and an unsustainable Healthcare bill.

I believe small businesses just need a predictable environment, competition, less regulations and customers with jobs and money in their pockets.

So back to my original question Congressman. Are you going to truly help small and medium businesses in the country and in Maryland by voting against the upcoming income tax increase in January?

Congressional Candidate Cardarelli calls on Ruppersberger to pledge not to increase taxes

Dr. Marcelo Cardarelli, the Republican candidate running for Congress in Maryland’s 2nd District has called on Rep. C.A. “Dutch” Ruppersberger to promise not raise taxes on the American people for at least the next two years.

Congress has delayed voting on the tax rate hike set to become effective at the end of this year. The vote will be conveniently delayed until after the elections but before the new Representatives are sworn in.

“Democrats have decided that since having the taxes at the present rate has not created more jobs, they might as well increase them and have more cash flow into the coffers of our almighty federal government”, Cardarelli said in reply to the recent news.

“Businesses need planning, they need a predictable environment. America has become unpredictable for investors. Running a company and creating jobs is about taking risks. But risks in a capitalist society should come from competition and the market not from our own government. Our government needs to give positive signals to investors. Raising taxes is not one of them”

Ellen Sauerbrey heads list that endorses Cardarelli campaign
Ambassador and former gubernatorial candidate Ellen Sauerbrey has also come out in support of Cardarelli. “Marcelo has seen firsthand what Washington, D.C.’s failing economic policies have done to other countries. Marcelo’s consistent conservative principles of limited government, fiscal restraint, lower taxes, and ending careerism in Washington is exactly what is needed in order to foster economic growth and stimulate jobs creation.”

Dr. Cardarelli is running for the Republican nomination for Congress in Maryland’s 2nd District against incumbent Rep. C.A. “Dutch” Ruppersberger.

In addition to Ambassador Sauerbrey, groups such as the 42 District, the Route 40 and the North Harford Republican Clubs have also endorsed the candidacy of Marcelo Cardarelli.
“I am very excited to have received the support of Ambassador Sauerbrey who has been a striking example of public service and leadership. I am also grateful for the wide support I have across the district among various Republican clubs and voters and will do my best to live up to their expectations” Cardarelli said in response to the recent news.

Cardarelli calls on Dutch to vote “Nay” on future bailout legislation

Marcelo Cardarelli, a Republican candidate currently running for Congress to represent Maryland’s 2nd District, has called upon incumbent Rep. C.A. “Dutch” Ruppersberger to vote no to any future proposal of bailout legislation, particularly in regards to mortgage financial lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

This comes in light of recent news that legislators in Washington have begun drafting legislation for a second stimulus package to bailout (again) the private mortgage companies under Government conservatorship.

“Federal Warranties and cash to reward Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac poor investment strategy have greatly contributed to where we are now. Further bailouts of these monstrosities will just set up the stage for the next mortgage bubble” Cardarelli said in reply to the proposals.

“Where will these bailouts end? When will lawmakers like Dutch Ruppersberger realize that digging is not the way to get out of a very deep hole? I do sincerely hope that when the bill to bailout Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac again comes to a vote on the House floor, our Representative chooses to do the right thing and vote “Nay”.”

Cardarelli slams Ruppersberger over proposed legislation

Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger is currently in the process of trying to prevent the United States Navy from moving the U.S.N.S. Comfort from its current docking location in the Port of Baltimore to Norfolk, Virginia. This comes in light of recent news that the berthing agreement with the Port of Baltimore will expire in 2013. As a result of this, Ruppersberger, along with other elected officials like Senator Barbara Mikulski, has recently proposed legislation that would call for the Navy to submit a cost-benefit analysis before making such a move.
Marcelo Cardarelli, a candidate for the House of Representatives in Maryland’s 2nd Congressional District, is questioning the priorities of Ruppersberger and what he should really be focusing on. “This year, Congress failed to pass a budget. We are still in a recession and he is concerned with the location of a ship?” Cardarelli said. “Perhaps the reason for the Navy considering the move is because they have been paying 1 million dollars every year to keep the ship docked there. They may be exploring other options that are not as expensive. This should be a sign to Rep. Ruppersberger that we are still in uncertain economic times. I am afraid that when it comes to knowing what is really important right now, Dutch has missed the boat.”

Recent polls show Ruppersberger in trouble

Current polls are starting to suggest that the people living in Maryland’s 2nd Congressional District are growing tired of Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger and are ready for someone new to represent them in Washington, D.C.

According to a poll released by Magellan, an independent pollster, the generic ballot is showing that a 39.6% of the people would vote for the Democrat while 35.7% of people would vote for a Republican candidate and 24.7% of people were undecided in the matter. This information comes in light of previous polling conducted a few months ago by the Cardarelli for Congress campaign that showed Democrats with a double digit lead over Republicans. In the previous internal poll, the Democratic candidate had led the Republican on the generic ballot test 38% to 28%. However, the poll conducted last week shows the gap closing to within roughly four percent (4).

In addition, the internal poll that was conducted showed Ruppersberger below that critical 50% reelect threshold and separately, Ruppersberger losing to Cardarelli once voters were informed on his 8 year record of supporting higher taxes and uncontrollable spending sprees.

“I believe that people are truly waking up and realizing that what Congressman Ruppersberger does in Washington D.C. is not exactly what he tells the people of Maryland’s 2nd Congressional District.”, Cardarelli said in reply to the current polling news. “The people are ready for new representation in Congress. If they honor me with their vote, I want them to know that I am ready to lead and ready to work for them.”
