Why are you a Democrat?

Like many of the people in Prince George’s County, I grew up influenced by Democratic politics.  I was told that Republicans were bad because they were racists.  I was told that they hated minorities, wanted to take away a woman’s right to choose, and wanted to take us back to the days of Jim Crow.  I was NOT taught about the history of the political parties, and I was led to believe that the racists, segregationists, and those who supported Slavery were the Republicans.  One day, I became fed up with the fact that the Democrats were enacting policies that conflicted with my upbringing and beliefs.  I did not support illegal immigration, gay marriage, higher taxes, traffic cameras, and all of the other rules that Democrats were continually advocating.  As I wrote my Delegates and Representatives to try to bring about “change,” I found that I was either always ignored, or I got an impersonal form letter written by a staffer.  So, I decided to get involved in politics myself.  I was thoroughly opposed to the Iraq War, and I was dismayed that prominent Democrats like Joe Biden & Hillary Clinton had voted for it, especially when the Democrats had enough votes in the Senate to stop it.  We are at war in Iraq today because the Democrats are complicit in this crime against the Constitution.  I was upset that so much power had been given to the Presidency that not even the Congress could stop an idea the President wanted, even when the American People opposed it.

I decided to get involved directly–to support politicians who would vote the way I believed.  I decided that despite being told they were all racists, I should consider the Republicans who were closer to my social beliefs.  What I discovered was TRULY AMAZING!!  The public school system had successfully deceived me on political issues.  I discovered that Abraham Lincoln was the FIRST Republican President.  I discovered that the Republican Party passed the 13th Amdendment which ended Slavery, passed the first Civil Rights Bill, and voted in overwhelming majorities to support the 1964 Civil Rights Act.  The people I was shown as the most violent racists–who denied Blacks the right to sit at a lunch counter, turned water hoses on children, and sicked attack dogs on protesters–were in fact DEMOCRATS.  I learned that the Ku Klux Klan had been started to intimidate and lynch both Blacks and Republicans, and was the attack wing of the Democratic Party.  It became clear to me that Republicans have always been the party of FREEDOM, whereas Democrats have always stood for Slavery and Oppression.

Today, Democrats advocate a new form of Slavery in stripping away the rights–not just of Blacks, but of all people–to live in FREEDOM.  To own a gun for your own protection, to speak your mind to your elected officials or write what you choose in the press, to say what you choose on TV or radio, to be free of warrantless searches, and to be secure in your rights to Life, Liberty, and Property.  Today’s Democrats (adopting the 100-year-old term, “Progressive”) despise Property the most.  For it is that right to Property that motivates people to strive harder, to earn more, and to make the best they can of their lives.  Many attempts have been made throughout history to destroy the right to Property–Stalin in Russia, Mao in China, Pol Pot in Cambodia, and so-on back to the Roman Empire and even the Bible.  Each time, it has resulted in misery, suffering, and massive death.  Yet the Democrats of today seek to oppress a new generation with the same policies that have failed human civilization time and again.  They seek to bind the Individual against his or her will in service to the State.  They believe that what makes the United States great is the geography and the opportunity here.  They are wrong.  What they fail to understand is that what makes the United States great is that we were founded on FREEDOM, and that our People claim the Blessings of LIBERTY for ourselves and our Posterity.  They do not understand that there is NOTHING more important than being FREE.

Well, my people came through a history of Slavery and Bondage.  We know what it is like to be enslaved.  And I swear by all that is in me that I will not go back.  That is why I am “Fighting for Freedom.”  That is why I stand up for my rights to Life, Liberty, and Property.  And I will not let anyone–not even the government–take that away from me.  Will you?  If you will not, then I must ask, “Why are you a Democrat?”
